News event: October 28, 2026. Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a notable shift in how the company expects people to interact with its professional laptops. The new machine was presented at Apple’s “Pro and tell” event and combines touch gestures with the keyboard-and-trackpad workflow Mac users already know.

What changes with the touchscreen MacBook?

The display integrates touch sensing directly into its panel. Users can scroll, swipe and pinch on the screen instead of relying only on a trackpad. Apple says the integrated design is intended to keep touch responses quick. The computer also introduces a tandem OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and brightness reaching 2,000 nits.

For buyers comparing models, the new 14-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch version starts at $3,399. M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations are available. Preorders opened on October 28, with general availability scheduled for November 6, according to technology coverage of the launch.

Apple updates more than one device

The October announcements also included an upgraded iPad Mini with an 8.5-inch OLED display and an A20 Pro processor, starting at $699. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro received an M6 chip, while refreshed iMac models gained M6 processors and Apple’s N1 networking technology. Those computers are also scheduled to begin shipping November 6.

Software is part of the story. Apple described AI-assisted tools for Keynote, Numbers and Pages, along with new creative features in other professional applications. Their usefulness will depend on real-world performance and availability rather than launch demonstrations alone.

What buyers should consider

The touchscreen model carries a significant price premium, so customers should consider whether direct screen interaction, the new display and higher-end processor options justify the cost. Anyone who primarily writes, browses or works with conventional desktop apps may find the less expensive MacBook Pro adequate.

The announcement confirms the product and its stated specifications, not independent battery-life or durability results. Buyers should wait for detailed hands-on testing before treating performance claims as established.
